It’s not about how hard one hits, but rather about how one bounces back when they’re hit. Yashasvi Jaiswal sure proved his mettle and worth as he slashed his way to a splendid 161 runs against Australia on Day 3 of the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday.

Jaiswal completed his maiden Test century against Australia during the morning session of the third day’s play of the ongoing Test, making him the third Indian batter to score a 100 in his maiden Test Down Under.

Although he failed to convert his century to a double, Jaiswal’s 161 marked the highest Test score put up by an Indian batter in Perth.

Jaiswal’s coach, Jwala Singh, expounded on the young batter’s grit and reinstated his faith in the young opener who he believes is one of the best youngsters in world cricket currently.

“When he was going to Australia there were a lot of talks about his (Yashasvi Jaiswal) capability and people were saying, the real test is when a player goes to SENA countries,” stated Jwala Singh.

“I was not worried and I was very sure that as he has done a lot of good performances in the past and proved himself, so I think he did well today. He proved why he is ranked one of the best youngsters of today’s generation.”

“Recently he has been with top players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and now Gautam Gambhir, who are helping him a lot,” Jwala reinstated his faith.

“As he is playing for the Indian cricket team, there is a responsibility on his shoulders to make all the Indians happy and beat Australia in Australia.”

Aided by the glorious innings of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who put up 161 runs of his own, Kohli teamed up with debutant Nitish Reddy to put up a quick fifty partnership as he led India to 487-6, after whch skipper Jasprit Bumrah declared, setting Australia a mammoth target of 534 runs.

Then, skipper Bumrah’s brilliance shone through with the ball, as India hobbled the host to a measly 12-3 by the end of day’s play, thereby piling the pressure on Australia with two days left in the first Test.
