Rachin Ravindra breaks records after his century against South Africa in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final.

New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra and his stellar performances in ICC ODI events continue as he raised his fifth century in the format during the all-important semi-final clash against South Africa in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
He scored his second century in the tournament, helping the Kiwis get on track for a mammoth first-innings score. His innings came to an end after scoring 108 off 101, with Kagiso Rabada dismissing the southpaw in the 34th over. He scored 13 boundaries and the one maximum during his innings. The batter was looking to accelerate but managed to get deceived by the slower delivery, which nicked the bat and carried to the keeper.
Ravindra has now surpassed the former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan to hold the record for the least innings taken to score five centuries in ICC ODI tournaments like the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. Along with the two tons he scored in the ongoing tournament, he has also scored three centuries in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where New Zealand were eliminated in the semi-final stages.
Dhawan held the record, having reached five centuries in ICC ODI tournaments in 15 innings, but Ravindra has bettered that by doing it in just 13 innings. After making his debut in the format against Sri Lanka in March 2023. He went on to make a mark in his ICC tournament debut by scoring an unbeaten 123 against England in Ahmedabad. He also scored 116 against Australia in the ODI World Cup, followed by 108 against Pakistan in Bengaluru.
In the Champions Trophy, he scored 112 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi and his current knock to take him at the top of the run-scoring charts as well, overtaking England’s Ben Duckett. He has now scored 251 runs, which also makes it the best display by a Kiwi batter in the history of the Champions Trophy, overtaking Kane Williamson’s tally of 244 runs in the 2017 edition.
Williamson also played a crucial role in building a solid platform for the Kiwis. He will also be likely eyeing a century of his own to help New Zealand post a 300+ score against South Africa in the first innings.
