A look at Rajat Patidar’s career across formats after he was named as the new captain of IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Rajat Patidar will become the eighth new captain to lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru after being announced as Faf du Plessis’ successor during an event today. The India cricketer will make his IPL captaincy debut during the upcoming season.
The top-order batter has risen to become the franchise captain in quick time, having played in just 27 matches for RCB spread across three seasons.
Having made his debut in 2021, Patidar was released by RCB after just one season as he failed to impress in four matches, he was part of, managing 71 runs at a strike-rate of 114.51.
He went unsold at the 2022 auction but as luck would have it, an injury to Luvnith Sisodia meant RCB resigned the batter midway through the season. And it was the beginning of the turnaround.
A Record Century
RCB’s mid-season signing dazzled when it mattered. In the IPL 2022 Eliminator clash with Lucknow Super Giants, Patidar stepped up with a match-winning knock of 112* off 54. He was yet to make his India debut back then and thus became the first ever uncapped player from his country to score a century in an IPL playoff.
Patidar reached that century in just 49 deliveries which was also the joint-quickest alongside Wriddhiman Saha in an IPL playoff.
Patidar ended that season with 333 runs from eight games while averaging 55.50. This time, as expected, RCB retained him for the next season. Unfortunately, he was ruled out from IPL 2023 due to a heel injury but made his return the following season.
