India all-rounder Ramandeep Singh has revealed how Mumbai Indians (MI) use a special app called Sports Always, which has a huge video data collection, to give their players an edge in the IPL. Ramandeep, who played for MI in 2022 before moving to his current franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said that players can use it to get videos of any batter facing any bowler around the world while sitting at home.
He was speaking on the Raj Shamani Podcast on YouTube. The host asked him the difference between MI and KKR, to which he said the five-time champions were quite keen on planning for every player.
“MI plan very well, for any and every player,” Ramandeep said. “They have a specific app, Sports Always, their own internal app. In it, if you want to look up any player, whether he’s playing domestic or international cricket or anything anywhere around the world — you write his name and any bowler’s name, and you’ll get all the videos of that batter facing that bowler. For example, I’ll write batsman — Ramandeep Singh, bowler — Jasprit Bumrah, I’ll get all the videos of Ramandeep Singh playing against Jasprit Bumrah.”
IPL 2024 was Ramandeep’s breakout season. Though he scored just 125 runs, they were made of many small cameos at an overall strike rate of 201.61 that helped the franchise clinch their third IPL title. KKR rewarded that by retaining him for Rs. 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Further in the podcast, Ramandeep said he got much bigger offers before the auction but he turned them down because of his love for KKR.
“The franchise that has helped you, you shouldn’t leave them at this time,” Ramandeep said. “You shouldn’t leave them at all. If you are leaving just for money, then that is wrong. Yes, there were teams willing to go after me and even offering amounts up to 10 crore. But for me, money was never the driving factor. When I was nothing, KKR held my hand, and I wanted to give them my full support,” he explained.
“IPL is a platform where opportunities are important, and the franchise that backs you deserves your loyalty. Money doesn’t matter that much. Obviously, money is important, but it never was about money[for me]. My dream has always been to represent India and to win the World Cup for the country,” Ramandeep added.
KKR started IPL 2025 with a seven-wicket defeat to RCB at the Eden Gardens.
