The defending Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai have received a massive boost to their squad as T20I stars Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube have been included in the squad that will take on Haryana in the quarterfinal clash set to begin on February 8 at Lahli, Haryana.
Mumbai who are the most successful side in India’s premier first-class tournament, finished second in the Elite Group A table with 29 points and sealed their spot in the knockouts with a bonus point win over Meghalaya in their final group-stage fixture.
The Indian T20I skipper will be hungry to score runs following a rather disappointing outing with the bat in the recently concluded five-match series against England. He ended the series with just 28 runs scored, which is far from his best.
Shivam Dube will look to bring in his T20I form in the first-class format as he looks to get past the poor batting performance in his previous domestic appearance as he finished with a pair against Jammu and Kashmir.
The all-rounder came into the T20I series, replacing Nitish Reddy who had picked up a side-strain. He went on to score a fifty on his T20I return in the fourth match that took place in Pune. He will look to replicate his form in the crucial knockout fixture.
With both men likely not being considered for selection for the ODI series against England, the pair will link up with their state side to play their quarterfinal against Haryana at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium from February 8-12.
The title-holders will look to find their best form as they aim to go all the way to get their 43rd Ranji Trophy title, thus extending their record as the most prolific side in the tournament’s history. Their star-studded squad with several senior stars mixed with young talents will be favourites in the upcoming clash. Haryana will not look to back down from the challenge and look to put their best foot forward in what will be a tough match-up.
