Shreyas Iyer makes his return to Mumbai’s squad while Prithvi Shaw has been dropped for the upcoming game vs Odisha in the Ranji Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer has returned to Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A clash against Odisha which begins on Wednesday. However, Prithvi Shaw has been dropped from the side.
Iyer had missed Mumbai’s previous game against Tripura due to personal reasons but now has made himself available for the upcoming domestic game being held at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, Bandra-Kurla Complex.
The middle-order batter will look to resume his journey to break into the Indian squad once again. He has fallen out of favour from the selectors after his disappointing performance in the England Test series at home, last year.
Shaw was part of the squad in the previous game but now finds himself not even in the 16-man team. As per a report by PTI, he was left out of the squad due to fitness and disciplinary issues.
Once touted as the next big batting sensation, Shaw’s career has seen a gradual slump with him not being able to live up to his expectations. After making his India debut at the age of 18, he has not been able to maintain his standards on the international level.
Ajinkya Rahane, as expected will lead the side as the skipper. Mumbai have played three games in the premier domestic tournament where they lost to Baroda by 84 runs, bounced back with a win by 9 wickets against Maharashtra and drew against Tripura as well.
They are currently fourth in Elite Group A with a total of nine points alongside Tripura. Baroda lead the standings with three wins in as many games while Jammu and Kashmir sit at 11 points on the table at second position.
Mumbai’s game against Odisha will begin on November 6 at 9:30 PM IST.
