Bumrah shed light on how he perfected his craft by repeating the act of delivering the cherry into the batters over and over again, while also divulging on the variations he practices in order to get it just right on match days.
Star Indian seamer voiced his rationale behind how the repetition of the art of bowling helps in perfecting the craft.
Bumrah, who has been one of the finest bowlers across formats in recent years stressed how crucial it is to inculcate bowling as part of one’s muscle memory in order to cut it at the highest level of the sport.
“Sometimes on game day you’d be tired, but you have to push on,” Bumrah began.
“In the nets as well, because again, you will be tired. You’re not going to be fresh all the time if you play Test cricket,” the star pacer added.
He shed light on how he perfected his craft by repeating the act of delivering the cherry into the batters over and over again, while also divulging on the variations he practices in order to get it just right on match days.
“What works for me is when I have taken wickets, how I have taken them and how was I feeling, all of those things I keep in mind and write it down and then I try and replicate that mindset again,” the 31-year-old said.
“Every game will not go well, but then if you have that balance, more often than not, you’d be able to execute your plans,” he added.
“I used to practice different kinds of deliveries every day, and when you do it over and over again, your body will have that in muscle memory,” the star seamer continued.
He emphasised on the virtues of volume and iterated how crucial the parameter is in the sport.
“So this game is about volume, so in order to learn anything you have to do it over and over again,” he said.
“Why do we execute the length ball a lot, because we’ve done it so many times,” he explained.
“Practice while being aware of what you’re doing, not just for the heck of it,” Bumrah voiced.
“Repetition with smart work,” he stated.
However, he also added that one should refrain from getting in over his head in the early stages of his career and rather stick to the basics in order to gain a command over his vocation.
“But initially before 27, 28 don’t think too much about what you have to do,” Bumrah said.
“If you don’t bowl enough how will you learn the craft?”
“It’s not a video game that I’ve decided and it will happen. You have to do it over and over again,” he reiterated.
