Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was cleaned up twice in the match simulation and was troubled by the short-pitched deliveries
As Team India gears up for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the players headed into an intra-squad match simulation on Friday at the WACA Stadium in Perth. It was learned that KL Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, followed by the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. However, none of the star Indian batters could excel against the India A bowling attack.
According to ESPNcricinfo, wicketkeeper-batter Pant was cleaned up twice in the match simulation and was troubled by the short-pitched deliveries. Though he showed promise in his innings, he was jaded after sustaining a groin injury. He smashed a couple of boundaries before getting clean-bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The report further stated that Pant was thoroughly troubled by shorter deliveries in the net sessions. Following the final interval, Pant and Kohli faced a barrage of short balls from Prasidh Krishna and Reddy. The former Indian captain had a tough start, but he went on to bat for an hour and finished on 30. Pant, on the other hand, batted with a proactive approach before getting cleaned up by Mukesh Kumar.
The opening riddle
While doubt still looms over Rohit Sharma’s participation in the Perth Test, the likes of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened together in the intra-squad match. As per the report, Rahul looked calm and carefully played the short balls before a Prasidh Krishna bouncer struck his elbow. The 32-year-old left the field and didn’t return for the day.
Meanwhile, Jaiswal showcased aggression with some confident drives, but his innings was cut short after he edged a ball to second slip.
Jaiswal, Gill top scorers
Gill and Jaiswal returned as the top scorers for India. Both young batters initially adopted an aggressive approach but eventually turned cautious. The left-hander reportedly appeared the most comfortable against short-pitched deliveries and was more aggressive against the spinners. He scored an unbeaten 52, while Gill scored 42 not out.
