After not being retained by Delhi Capitals, Pant will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be a player to watch out for in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is set to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25. The left-handed batter who finished as the leading run scorer for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 was not retained by the Delhi-based franchise. He has a base price of Rs 2 crore, and many fans and experts of the game feel that Pant will break the record of highest bid for any player in the IPL auction history.
As of now, the record of being the most expensive player in IPL is in the name of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who joined KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant is playing for India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which got underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday (November 22). During Day 1’s play of the first Test, star Australian spinner Nathan Lyon quizzed Pant about which IPL team he would join in the auction, and in reply, Pant gave a two-word reaction.
In a video going viral on the internet, Lyon asked, “Where we going in the auction?” and in reply, Pant said, “No idea.”
Pant, who came out to bat at No. 5 for India in the first innings, became the third Indian cricketer after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to score 2000 runs in the World Test Championship. He achieved the feat by scoring three runs in the first session. Rohit holds the record for scoring most runs for India in the WTC. In 37 matches played so far, the right-handed batter has 2685 runs to his name.
Rohit is not playing in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is yet to arrive in Australia. Rohit, who is India’s Test and ODI captain, delayed his arrival due to the birth of his second child. According to reports, Rohit is expected to travel in the coming days and join the side on November 24. In all likelihood, he will play in the two-day warm-up match in Canberra and be available for selection from the second Test onwards.
