Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh have named their son, Ahaan. The couple welcomed their second child in November, earlier this year.
The captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams had decided to be with his wife and family for the birth of their second child. This meant that he was unavailable for the first Test in Perth.
The Indian skipper is currently with the squad playing a practice game against Australia PM’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. He joined the team midway into the first Test.
In Rohit’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah led the side for the Perth Test where India went on to register a mammoth 295-run victory. KL Rahul took the opening position alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and the two had fine performances which helped India take the series lead.
Rohit is set to lead the side for the second Test in Adelaide which will be a pink ball day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval, starting from December 6.
He will look to get in as much practice as possible to get accustomed to playing against the pink ball. With Rohit likely taking back his position at the top of the order, it remains to be seen where Rahul will fit in the batting order.
In addition, it remains to be seen who’s spot Rohit would take from the side that played in Perth.
With Rohit’s return, India will have most of their starting players back in the squad. Shubman Gill’s availability for the second Test is yet to be confirmed but he has been seen training in the nets and could come out to bat in the second innings of the practice game as well.
Rohit after his brief absence will be more motivated than ever to get some runs under his belt. Before the Australia series, questions were asked of his batting as India suffered a crushing whitewash on home soil against New Zealand.
He will be keen to continue India’s momentum going into the rest of the series and help the side secure their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the 2023-25 cycle.
