Rohit Sharma finds himself at the top of the record books for the Mumbai Indians after his blistering half-century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.

The batting veteran has now gone past the former West Indies international, Kieron Pollard, to hold the record for most sixes hit by a batter for the franchise. Pollard previously held the record with 258 sixes in 211 games, but Rohit has surpassed that in 229 matches and scoring 260 sixes.

Among the other big names are Suryakumar Yadav, who, despite playing only 107 games, has 129 sixes to his name and looks on track to possibly make his tally even higher and possibly surpass both Rohit and Kohli.

Another young contender that could go far is none other than Tilak Varma who despite only playing 47 matches, has amassed 68 sixes already and could be on track to overtake the senior stars in the distant future as well.

Rohit, coming in as MI’s impact substitute, once again showcased his class with the bat, scoring 70 runs in 46 balls laced with eight boundaries and three maximums to power their chase against SRH. He ended up being dismissed in the 15th over by Eshan Malinga whilst looking to go big, but Suryakumar Yadav ultimately got the job done with his quickfire knock of 40 in 19 balls.

Rank Player Name Matches Sixes
1 Rohit Sharma 229 260
2 Kieron Pollard 211 258
3 Suryakumar Yadav 107 129
4 Hardik Pandya 114 115
5 Ishan Kishan 89 106
6 Ambati Rayudu 136 84
7 Tilak Varma 47 68
8 Quinton de Kock 43 54
9 Harbhajan Singh 158 49
10 Tim David 37 46

Rohit did not waste too much time in the middle to get his innings started as he was on the offensive against Pat Cummins. He did not flinch against the off-cutters as well, showcasing his intent. But he had his fair share of defensive strokes as well, and the balance between both helped him get to another fifty to help shut down any chances of SRH coming out with a win.

The star opening batter will look to get another big score on the board during their next game which at at home in the Wankhede Stadium where they take on the Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants on April 27 (Sunday).
