Head was batting on 112 runs from 125 balls when the incident took place on the third ball of the 72nd over of Australia’s first innings, which was bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma dropped Travis Head’s catch on Sunday (December 15) to give the Aussie star a lifeline in the ongoing third Test between the two teams, which is currently underway at The Gabba in Brisbane. Head was batting on 112 runs from 125 balls when a ball by Nitish Kumar Reddy kissed the edge of his bat and travelled straight to the slips where Rohit was fielding. But the Indian captain failed to convert the opportunity, and Head survives.
The video of Rohit’s dropping Head’s catch on the third ball of the 72nd over, to give him a lifeline, was shared by fans on social media platforms, and within no time it went viral on the internet.
Head has been in red-hot form in international cricket against India since the start of 2023, and during the second session of the ongoing second day’s play, he scored his second century in a row against India.
After coming out to bat at No. 5 for the Pat Cummins-led side at The Gabba on Sunday, Head crossed the 100-run mark on the 115th ball of his innings.
He has added more than 200 runs for the fourth wicket with Steve Smith, who also, after getting out for low scores in the first two Tests of the ongoing series, has managed to score a half-century.
