Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai these days. The right-handed batter, however, failed to do much with the bat and scored 3 runs from 19 balls in the first innings and 28 off 35 deliveries in the second.

During the third day’s play of the must-win match for Mumbai in front of home fans, Rohit was seen giving a pep talk to Mumbai players before the start of Jammu and Kashmir’s second innings. The clip of Rohit motivating Mumbai players was shared by fans on social media platforms, and within no time it went viral on the internet.

Despite being captain of India’s Test and ODI teams, Rohit is playing the Ranji Trophy match as a pure batter. Ajinkya Rahane, who led Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy title last season, was retained as Mumbai captain for the sixth group stage match of the ongoing season.

There were high expectations from Rohit in his first Ranji Trophy match after 10 years, but he failed to do much. In the second innings, Rohit got off to a good start and hammered two fours and three sixes but failed to convert his knock into a big score. He was sent back to the pavilion for 28 runs by former Mumbai Indians pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak.

Apart from Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal is also playing for Mumbai in the ongoing match, but like Rohit, he also failed to do much. The left-handed batter scored four runs in the first innings and 26 in the second.

For Mumbai, out-of-favor all-rounder Shardul Thakur top-scored in both innings. The 33-year-old right-handed batter scored 51 runs from 57 balls in the first innings and 119 runs from 135 balls in the second. Shardul came out to bat at No. 8 for Mumbai on Friday and added 184 runs for the eighth wicket with Tanush Kotian (62).

During his stay at the crease in the first innings, Shardul hammered five fours and two sixes, and in the second innings he scored 18 fours.
