Mumbai Indians shared a special video featuring some top players of the team to celebrate the Marathi Bhasha Diwas. Celebrated annually on February 27, the event is marked to remember the contributions of legendary Marathi poet Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar (Kusumagraj). Apart from the local community in the state of Maharashtra, many people across the world observed this day, dedicated to celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the language.
On the special occasion, Mumbai Indians also wished its fans, posting a video of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. Sporting polo t-shirts featuring the Mumbai Indians emblem, the cricketers underwent a photo session. They also smilingly posed to click a group picture together.
The Mumbai-based franchise dropped the clip on Instagram with the caption, “Paltans, Happy Marathi Bhasa Diwas.” The post caught the attention of several Marathi-speaking fans who showed their love for the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions in the comment section.
All players of the Mumbai Indians unit will reunite after the Champions Trophy 2025. Rohit Sharma is leading India in the ICC competition, with Hardik Pandya being a key member of the squad. Jasprit Bumrah, however, had been ruled out of the tournament due to a back issue. The ace Indian pacer picked up the injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Despite the absence of Bumrah, India dominated their first two matches in the Champions Trophy 2025. With Mohammed Shami spearheading the pace attack with a five-wicket haul, they were able to restrict Bangladesh to 232 runs in the campaign opener. Rohit struck a quickfire 41 in the match while Shubman Gill stepped up with an unbeaten ton as India won the important fixture by six wickets.
The Indian bowlers were equally impressive in the second game. This time, Pakistan was bundled out for 241. Spinners dominated the proceedings in Dubai. Kuldeep Yadav fetched a three-wicket haul while Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja each picked one. Hardik Pandya also put on a commendable bowling show and got two scalps under his belt.
Virat Kohli stole the show during the chase. After a series of disappointing performances, the top-order batter came back with a match-winning hundred as India notched a six-wicket victory to secure their place in the semi-finals. The two-time champions will meet New Zealand in the last group fixture on March 2.
