A young female fan constantly begged Rohit Sharma, who was making his way back to the dressing room, for Shubman Gill.
Rohit Sharma was perplexed by a fan’s request after the Indian men’s cricket team’s practice session on Tuesday at the outdoor nets of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
After Team India finished their net session, Rohit walked over to the fans gathered outside the MCG nets to watch the Indian stars. The Indian captain even signed autographs and interacted with the fans.
A young female fan constantly begged Rohit, who was making his way back to the dressing room, for Shubman Gill.
Rohit first gestured with his hand for the fan to come back later but when the fan continued to persist, he responded: “Kaha se lau? (where will I get him?)”
Later the young fan spoke to RevSports, saying: “My leg is broken. I put on a bandage and came. Yesterday I saw him briefly, but could not say anything because I started crying. I came a little late today because of my leg, hence I could not meet Shubman. But I hope he makes a comeback.”
Gill missed the opening Test of the Border-Gavasker Trophy in Perth due to a thumb injury he suffered during India’s simulated training game. In the second Test at Adelaide, he failed to convert good starts into big scores as Australia levelled the series 1-1. The third Test at Brisbane saw him getting out for one in the first innings, putting India in a spot of bother before KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja struck half-centuries to halt the slide.
Gill has not been in the best of touches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but captain Rohit has backed his young batting star.
“Both innings in Adelaide he looked pretty good, just didn’t go on to score a big one. I think he got 25-30 in both innings. I’m not going to look too much into Brisbane, got out second or third ball. You can’t look too much into it. But Gill has been one of our young prospects, who is coming up and playing really, really well. These tours can be challenging. It is the same thing, when some of these travel to India, it is hard for them as well,” Rohit told the media.
