Team India captain Rohit Sharma is confident that the team will perform well in the upcoming series against New Zealand. He emphasized about focusing on improving themselves rather than worrying about the opposition.
Every team brings a different challenge for us, New Zealand is a different team, it brings different challenges to us, we have played with them, we know the players and their strengths, weakness but I have said it always that we focus on improving ourselves series to series. Not keeping focus on opposition teams, we will try to focus on our teams, he said.
Our attitude does not need to change and we still want to try and win games in whatever possible situation it is and we will try to make the most of situation and see hw we can press the peddle and take the game forward, he added.
He praised young player Yashasvi Jaiswal, saying that he has shown great talent and has the potential to succeed at this level.
I am not surprised at all, the guy (Yashasvi Jaiswal) has got real talent, he has got the game to play in all sorts of condition, he has got all ingredients for success at this level, it just about how he manages himself in the next couple of years, you can bet on him with what he has shown us all in this brief period of time. Being an aggressive batter, he is doing well for the team and I hope that he does well in future also, he said in pre-match press conference.
He also revealed that the team is keeping a close eye on injured player Shami and wants him to be 100% fit before bringing him back into the team.
Right now its pretty difficult for us to take a call on him (Shami). He recently had a setback, swelling in his knee which was quite unusual while he was in the process of getting close to 100 percent fit that put him a little back in his recovery. Right now he is at NCA, working with the doctors and physios. We are keeping our fingers crossed, we want him to be 100 percent fit, we dont want to bring an undercooked Shami which is not going to be the right thing. We want to give hime enough time to recover and get fit. He is supposed to play a couple of games before international matches. After this series we will see, what stage is he at and take a call on him, he said.
