During his stay at the crease on Friday for Mumbai, Rohit faced 35 balls and, with the help of two fours and three sixes, scored 28 runs.
Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma failed to fire for Mumbai in the second innings as well of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Jammu & Kashmir, which is currently underway at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai. The 37-year-old batter, who scored three runs from 19 balls in the first inning, scored 28 runs from 35 balls in the second inning. During his stay at the crease on Friday (January 24), Rohit hammered two fours and three sixes and added 54 runs for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
He was sent back to the pavilion by former Mumbai Indians pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak on the fourth ball of the 14th over. Rohit tried to play a pull shot but failed to connect with the ball properly and was caught by Abid Mushtaq inside the 30-yard circle.
Before returning to the dugout, Rohit impressed with his attacking approach in the morning session and scored three maximums.
Jaiswal also failed to do much with the bat in the second innings after scoring four in the first and got out after making 26 runs from 51 balls. The 23-year-old left-handed batter was caught in the gully by Yawer Hassan off Yudhvir’s bowling.
Rohit decided to play in the Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai after failing to score big runs for India in the last three Test series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia. He could only manage to score 91 runs in three Tests against the Kiwis and 31 runs in three Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Due to his poor form, Rohit opted out of the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and his decision raised a lot of question marks over his future in Test cricket, but he ruled out the news of his retirement from the five-day format of the game.
It will be interesting to see if Rohit plays in the last group stage match of the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. The 42-time champions last match is scheduled to take place at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC again from January 30 to February 2 against Meghalaya.
