Four of India’s international men’s stars, skipper Rohit Sharma, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, and top-order batters Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal were captured arriving at the Mumbai airport on Sunday.
The players were present at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s annual awards ceremony, the Naman Awards 2025, on Saturday. India’s next match is the first of the three-match ODI series against England in Nagpur. Watch the viral video of their arrival and interaction with the paparazzi here:
India will play the first ODI at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on February 6 followed by the second at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 9 and the final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. It’s India’s last ODI series before the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan and the UAE.
On Sunday, India completed a 4-1 series win over England in the five-match T20I rubber at the Wankhede Stadium. None of Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill and Iyer were part of the T20I squad. Rohit and Gill are regular openers for India in ODIs while Iyer has fixed his place at number four. Jaiswal got his first ODI call-up for this series.
Though none of these players won anything at this edition of the Naman Awards, they had some brilliant moments. Rohit was even asked to speak about India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win.
“Honestly it took a while for me to realize we’ve won the World Cup, until we came to Mumbai we realized what we actually did,” he said. “Unfortunately for us, in Barbados, we were stuck there because of the hurricane, we were not able to go out so for three or four days we were there and you know when you win an ICC trophy, you want to go and celebrate, especially when you are not in the country and bring it back to the country and celebrate with the fans. But up until we arrived in Mumbai and we saw the glimpse of it, the next morning when I woke up, I realized it was very very special.”
