Team India gear up to take on rivals Australia in the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the MCG on boxing day, but recent reports suggest that the tourists might be at a disadvantage with as many as five key players under threat of missing the game due to injuries.

Team skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Aakash Deep sustained blows while practising their willow-wielding skills during nets at MCG ahead of the fourth game of BGT.

Rohit sustained a hit to the knee during a nets session at the MCG on the 22nd of December while facing a throw by Daya, but pacer Akash Deep revealed that the extent of the injury wasn’t as major as to make the captain miss the Boxing day game.

Akash, who held tail at the Gabba to help India avoid the follow-on in the third Test, took a hit while honing his batting skills in the net. But, the pacer alleviated any fears of him missing the upcoming game eventually.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rahul took a blow on his hand on the same day as Rohit in the nets. Rahul was attended to by the team’s physios and was in discomfort but it is touted that he will be for the game at Melbourne.

Dashing batter Jaiswal also picked up a hit on his hand during practice and the physio was pictured attending to the southpaw’s finger.

Gill, who sat out the opening Test between the sides due to a left thumb fracture, was seen inspecting his right thumb on this occasion when he was facing pacer Mohammed Shami in the nets.

Team India, who pulled off a huge win in the opening Test at Perth, surrendered the second game of the series at Adelaide as the Aussies restored parity at 1-1. The third Test at Gabba ended in a draw to leave the series poised evenly heading into the fourth game of the five-match series.
