Rishabh Pant will hope to use the knowledge he’s gained from some of the biggest names in the world of cricket he’s played alongside so far when he embarks on a new journey with Lucknow Super Giants as their captain for the upcoming IPL 2025. Pant on Monday was announced as LSG’s captain after the franchise parted ways with KL Rahul last year.

Pant says he’s learned from all his captains as well as senior players.

“Yes, I’ve learned from a lot of captains, and a lot of my seniors because I feel you just don’t have to only learn from your captain,” Pant said on Monday. “There are a lot of senior players who have experience of the game, the way game is moving forward. There’s a lot you can learn from all the seniors, not just the captain.”

When asked to name what trait he’s exactly picked from the captains he’s played under, Pant replied, “It’s difficult to be very specific. With Rohit (Sharma) bhai, I have learned how to care for a player. And I feel the same as a captain when I captain a side.”

“I feel if you give confidence and trust to a player, he will do things which you can’t even imagine for you and for the team. And that’s the kind of ideology we like to have,” he added.

Pant was signed by LSG for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore at the two-day mega auction held in Jeddah last year.

“We’ll back the players. We’ll try to give them trust. We’ll have a clear communication,” Pant said while explaining his vision for the team.

Pant wants his players to exhibit ‘never-say-die’ attitude and not worry on their individual performances.

“One thing is that never say die attitude. You fight till the last ball and that is something I always emphasise on, performance will come and go,” Pant said.

“But are you fighting enough? Are you giving you a 100% when you are on the field? And that is something you can control as an individual. Because, see, everyone gets tired. But, eventually, how far are you willing to take it? Are you willing to give that extra 20-30% for the team even though your body is not allowing. That’s the kind of character we want in the team and that’s the kind of culture we’re looking to build forward,” he added.
