Dhawan remains of the firm belief that the experience of Kohli and Rohit shall help anchor the Indian squad to not just betterment, but a hattrick of wins at Australia in the upcoming BGT.
When the going gets tough, the tough will get going. That is exactly what Shikhar Dhawan believes India will pull off, as he backs the Rohit Sharma-led Test side to glory against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
India are yet to recover from an embarrassing 0-3 whitewash at home to New Zealand, their first-ever in their Test cricket history, as the entire sqaud and their stars have come under fire.
Skipper Rohit and talisman batter Virat Kohli have come under the most scrutiny, following their dismal display with the bat.
Across the 3 matches played, Rohit has scored just a meager 91 runs, at an abysmal average of 15.17. And over the year 2024, he has amassed only 588 runs from 11 matches at 29.40.
Kohli wasn’t much better himself, as he scored a shameful 93 runs at 15.50 in the NZ series, whilst having racked up just 250 runs from 6 matches at 22.72 in 2024.
Despite all that transpired, Dhawan remains of the belief that the experience that these two hold shall help anchor the squad to not just betterment, but a hattrick of wins at Australia.
“I believe we have a solid chance to bag a hat-trick of title wins in Australia. We’ve done exceptionally well in the last two series there. I’m sure the team will go to Australia with a positive, winning mindset,” stated Dhawan.
“Rohit, Virat, and even Bumrah have played extensively in Australia, and they’ll share their experiences with the younger players.”
Dhawan also expressed his confidence and belief in the youngsters coming through the ranks such as Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and stated that they shall adapt to the conditions effectively and shall thrive.
“This new generation is confident, motivated and eager to perform. They’ve established themselves quickly on the international stage, which is a tremendous adavatage for us in Australia, reinstated Dhawan.
“Though pace is always a challlenge there, out batters are well-prepared to handle it.”
Following the Test series loss to New Zealand, India have slipped to the second spot on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table while Australia have jumped up to the pole position. Now, if India want to make it to their third consecutive final, they need to defeat Aussies by a margin of 4-0 to qualify on their own.
The most awaited Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia will begin on November 22, with the first Test at Perth.
