The Indian cricket team geared up for the Pink-Ball Test against Australia with a two-day warmup fixture in Canberra recently. The contest with Prime Minister’s XI was reduced to 50-overs-a-side affair after the opening day was abandoned without toss due to inclement weather.

The match finally got underway on Sunday at the Manuka Oval with India captain Rohit Sharma opting to bowl first. However, soon after PM’s XI innings got underway, it started raining heavily forcing the players back into the dressing room. The delay resulted in the contest being further curtailed to 46-overs-a-side upon resumption.

Fortunately, the weather remained clear for the remainder of the match as India went on to register a six-wicket win.

PM’s XI innings saw young top-order batter Sam Konstas giving Australia selectors a timely reminder of his potential as he peeled off a fine century while facing India’s pace attack comprising Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana.

Konstas made 107 off 97 with the help of 14 fours and a six.

The 19-year-old was key to PM’S XI innings recovering from a batting collapse triggered by a four-wicket burst from Rana.

From 131/2 at one stage, PM’S XI slipped to 138/7. However, Konstas then found a good support from Hanno Jacobs who made 61 off 60 as they eventually were bowled out for 240 in 43.2 overs.

India made a strong start with opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul adding 75 runs. Jaiswal was out after hitting 45 while Rahul retired hurt after making 27 off 44.

Rohit batted at no.4 but was out after managing just three runs.

Shubman Gill unfurled elegant strokes to hit a half-century with the help of seven fours before retiring hurt.

Nitish Reddy struck a quick 42 off 32 while Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 42 off 36 as India overhauled the total to finish with 257/5 in 46 overs.
