Rajasthan Royals were slammed on social media on Wednesday after debatable decisions in the Super Over against the Delhi Capitals led them to lose a game that looked to have been in their control for most of the chase.

With the scores tied on 188 after the 20 overs of Rajasthan’s chase, the match moved into the Super Over. With RR needing to bat first, one expected Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana to come in, with Dhruv Jurel or Shimron Hetmyer to follow.

But Rajasthan instead sent in Riyan Parag with Hetmyer, sparking a massive social media reaction.

“Nitish Rana scores a quick 50. Jaiswal scores a 50. Rajasthan Royals – “Of course, let’s instead send the guy who scored 8 off 11,” Smart,” comedian Sorabh Pant tweeted on Wednesday night.

“RR alpha mindset management: -Deny double at a crucial moment -Send Riyan Parag ahead of Yashasvi in super over,” another account tweeted.

Hetmyer smacked a boundary off the second ball from Mitchell Starc in the Super Over and then took a single to hand the strike to Riyan. The latter hit another boundary off the fourth delivery, which was deemed a no-ball.

In a massive brain fade moment on the legal fourth delivery of the over, Hetmyer ran a non-existent single when the ball had clipped Riyan’s pads and gone to KL Rahul behind the stumps.

Hetmyer was already on Riyan’s side of the crease, and there was no option for the latter other than to sacrifice his wicket. Jaiswal came in next, and he too was run out, as RR posted just 11 runs off the super over. DC chased it down in four balls.

Notably, Dhruv Jurel was also slammed after he denied Hetmyer a single during the penultimate over of the chase.

“Dhruv Jurel wanted to be a hero but became a villain lol,” a fan tweeted.

Rajasthan play their next match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, April 19, in Jaipur.
