Sachin Tendulkar attended Wimbledon and posed with a photo with Tennis greats Roger Federer and Bjorn Borg on Friday.

The cricket legend posted the photo on social media with the caption: “What’s sweeter than strawberries & cream at Wimbledon? Finding yourself in the middle of a Grand Slam sandwich.”

Why Is Sachin In London?

Earlier on Thursday, a portrait of the Indian cricket legend was unveiled at the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Museum before play on the opening day of the third Test match between England and India at Lord’s.

The artwork, created by Stuart Pearson Wright, will be displayed at the MCC Museum until later this year, after which it will be moved to the Pavilion.

Tendulkar is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. Over a 24-year international career from 1989 to 2013, he amassed 34,357 runs across Test matches, One-Day Internationals, and T20 Internationals for India – over 6,000 more than the next highest scorer, Kumar Sangakkara, who has 28,016 runs.

The portrait is based on a photograph taken by Pearson Wright at Tendulkar’s home in Mumbai 18 years ago. As the project developed, Pearson Wright opted to use oil on abraded aluminium for the final piece. The abstract background symbolises Tendulkar’s timeless essence, unbound by any specific era or location.

This addition marks the fifth portrait of an Indian cricketer in MCC’s Collections, with Pearson Wright having painted four of them (Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Tendulkar). Unlike the full-length portraits of the previous Indian players, Tendulkar’s image is a larger-than-life depiction of his head and shoulders, as stated in a press release.

Sachin Tendulkar expressed his delight: “It is a huge honour. In 1983, when India won the World Cup, it was my first introduction to Lord’s. I saw our captain, Kapil Dev, lift the trophy. That moment sparked my cricketing journey. Today, with my portrait going up inside the Pavilion, life feels like it’s come full circle. When I reflect on my career, it brings a smile to my face. This is truly special.”
