Sameer Rizvi smashed the fastest double century in the Men’s U23 State A Trophy in the fixture against Tripura on Saturday.

Uttar Pradesh’s batter and the former Chennai Super Kings player, Sameer Rizvi smashed the fastest double century in the Men’s U23 State A Trophy in the fixture against Tripura on Saturday.
He reached the 200-run mark in just 97 deliveries where he smashed 13 boundaries and 20 maximums, taking them to 405 as UP went on to win the contest by 152 runs. Rizvi is currently the top scorer in the competition with 518 runs from four games. His recent knocks of 153 and an unbeaten 137 from previous games show that he may be in his best form. Uttar Pradesh so far has won four games out of the six in total for their group games.
Interestingly, Haryana’s Arsh Ranga holds the highest score when he smashed 230 against Uttarakhand in Ranchi, earlier this month.
Rizvi after his one season with CSK bid a stunning Rs 8.4 crores, was not retained by the franchise as the Delhi Capitals went on to take him for Rs 95 Lakh in the 2025 mega auction.
The youngster has shown glimpses of his potential when he smashed a six off Rashid Khan in his first ball at the Indian Premier League. To top that off, he scored yet another six which made a strong statement on his debut appearance.
Despite the record not being listed as an official one, his feat would top the List-A double hundreds scored by New Zealand’s Chad Bowes who scored 205 in 110 deliveries. This pipped the previous record holder in Narayan Jagadeesan and Travis Head’s 114-ball double ton.
Rizvi’s knock will be a positive note for the Capitals who will likely look to make use of his explosive batting prowess for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. The franchise will look to continue their hunt for their first IPL title.
His explosive hitting ability coupled with that of Harry Brook, KL Rahul, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs could prove to be a tough batting unit for the new season. Rizvi’s role could come in the middle order and the Capitals could be the place where he has his big break in a top-tier competition.
