Rajasthan Royals captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson could miss the remainder of IPL 2025. According to a report in Sportstar, the 30-year-old cricketer from Kerala has undergone scans, and his availability for the rest of the season will depend on the reports.
“Sanju Samson underwent scans, and his availability will depend on the reports,” Sportstar reported.
Samson, who is RR’s all-time leading run scorer in the IPL, was retained for Rs 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He played as a pure batter in the first three matches of this year’s IPL. During the team’s seventh league match against Delhi Capitals in Delhi, he suffered an injury because of which he got retired hurt as well in the sixth over of the run chase. He didn’t come out to bat in the super over as well, and his team went on to lose the match.
If Samson gets ruled out, then his absence will be a big setback for the inaugural edition winners. The Jaipur-based franchise will face Delhi Capitals in their eighth league match of IPL 2025 on Saturday (April 19) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, and it will be interesting to see if Samson features in that match or not.
If Samson misses out, then Riyan Parag is likely to captain the side. Parag served as RR captain in the first three matches of IPL 2025 as well when Samson played as an impact player.
Samson’s record in IPL 2025
