The Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson after a successful surgery on his finger, will reportedly be available to lead the Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

According to a report by ESPNCricinfo, he is expected to be fit and ready to lead the Rajasthan Royals in the coming season. The report claims that he will take around one month to fully recover from his recent surgery on his finger. This means that he will have plenty of time to get back to fitness for IPL 2025.

Samson suffered the injury during the fifth and final T20I against England that took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Jofra Archer bowled a short delivery which came into the batter, striking him in his dominant arm. He did not take the field in the second innings and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as a substitute.

It also saw him missing out on Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Jammu and Kashmir. Thankfully, his stateside went on to draw the game and progress through to the semis via a first-innings lead.

The 30-year-old did not have a great T20I series against England. He only scored 51 runs across the five games. Since the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Samson has been promoted to the top of the order where he opens the batting with Abhishek Sharma.

Sanju began his stint at the top in tremendous fashion scoring a fine century against Bangladesh in Hyderabad followed by two more centuries against South Africa during their T20I away series as well.

But since then, he has seen a dip in form, struggling to make the most out of his quick starts. Samson will likely be back in action for the Rajasthan Royals where he will look to give the franchise their first title since they won it in the inaugural edition. The side has come close, especially in the 2022 season when they lost to Gujarat Titans in the final.

RR have made some interesting additions to their squad and it remains to be seen if the franchise will opt to open the batting with Samson or if he comes in at his usual spot at number three.
