Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson will miss his team’s ninth league match of IPL 2025 on Thursday (April 24). The Jaipur-based franchise is set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 42nd league match of IPL 2025 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but Samson will not play in that fixture. According to a report in Sportstar, the 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Kerala is currently undergoing recovery and will not travel to Bengaluru for the upcoming match.
“He is currently undergoing recovery and will remain at the team’s home base with select RR medical staff. As part of his ongoing rehab process, he will not be travelling to Bangalore for the upcoming match against RCB,” the report read.
Samson missed RR’s eighth league match against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday (April 19) in Jaipur due to an injury which he suffered while playing against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 match on Wednesday (April 16) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
In Samson’s absence, Riyan Parag will continue to lead Rajasthan Royals, and the cricketer from Assam would like to help his side snap the losing run of four matches and return to winning ways.
RR in 8th position
With just two wins from eight matches played so far in the ongoing season, Rajasthan Royals sit at 8th position in the IPL 2025 points table. The Jaipur-based franchise kicked off the season with back-to-back defeats against SRH and KKR but then bounced back by getting the better of CSK in Guwahati and Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. However, in the last four matches, they went down by 58 runs against Gujarat Titans, lost by 9 wickets against RCB, lost in the super over against Delhi Capitals and lost by two runs against LSG.
Samson’s performance in IPL 2025
Samson was retained for Rs 18 crore by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He scored 66 runs in the first match against SRH but failed to help his side chase down the target of 287 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In the next six matches, the cricketer from Kerala registered scores of 13, 20, 38, 41, 15 and 31 runs.
In Samson’s absence, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi opened the innings for RR against the Rishabh Pant-led side and scored 34 runs from 20 balls in the 181-run chase.
