Mumbai Indians signed G Kamalini, Nadine de Klerk, Sanskriti Gupta and Akshita Maheshwari for a combined cost of Rs. 2.2 crore.

Mumbai Indians (MI) owner, Mrs. Nita Ambani, expressed her satisfaction with the team’s business at Sunday’s 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. MI spent Rs. 2.2c crore for G Kamalini, Nadine de Klerk, Sanskriti Gupta and Akshita Maheshwari to add to their 14-member squad.

Young Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter Kamalini took the lion’s share of the spending at Rs. 1.60 crore — she’s now the joint fourth-highest-paid player in the team — as MI beat Delhi Capitals in a bidding war. de Klerk, Gupta and Maheshwari were signed for the base prices.

“We are all very happy and satisfied with the team we have assembled today,” Mrs. Ambani said in a statement. “Auctions are exciting and emotional at the same time. I am so proud of all the girls who have participated in the auction today and all the girls who have now become part of the Mumbai Indians family: G Kamalini, Nadine de Klerk, Sanskriti Gupta and Akshita Maheshwari.”

In her welcome message to the incoming players, Mrs. Ambani cited the example of the men’s team’s success with scouted players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma to say the franchise has always aimed to ‘nurture and develop’ talent.

“We warmly welcome you to the Mumbai Indians family. Mumbai Indians has always tried to scout, nurture and develop young talent. We have done this with our men’s team and it is a proud feeling to see Bumrah, Hardik and now Tilak representing India on the global stage. We are trying to do the same thing with our girls too. Last year, we picked Sajana up in the auction. It’s wonderful to see her now playing for Team India.”

She also expressed her particular excitement with Kamalini, who scored a brilliant unbeaten 44 against Pakistan in the Under-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup on the day of the auction.

“This year we are very excited about the 16-year old Kamalini. Our scouts have been tracking her for some time and she is a very exciting new talent to look out for. So, in all, a satisfying day at the auction.”
