He revealed the story behind the nickname. In an interview with SportsTak, as per multiple outlets, he said, “I was playing in the Ranji Trophy and was sitting at silly point, When the other team has a big partnership then the players tend to get down. When I was sitting, I used to shout, ‘Bahut yaarana hai s*** ** ******n’ and everyone used to burst out laughing. Our coach (Vijay) kept my name Gabbar from there only. From there, the name became so famous that cricket fans all over the world now call me Gabbar only.”

Shikhar Dhawan’s Life Post-retirement

Shikhar Dhawan last donned the Indian jersey in December 2022 against Bangladesh. After two years of absence from international cricket, Dhawan officially announced his retirement in 2024.

Since hanging up his boots, he has been involved in several activities. He joined the Legends Cricket League (LLC) where he represented the Gujarat Greats. He recently made his debut in the Nepal Premier League as a Karnali Yaks star.

Apart from cricket, Shikhar Dhawan is involved in business ventures with the DaOne Group. He owns a Delhi Premier League team named South Delhi Superstars.

Dhawan has invested in a chain of fitness centres, a sports equipment line and a wellness brand. He is also considering commentary in the future.
