After only managing to score 31 runs in the three Tests against Australia, Indian captain Rohit Sharma took a bold decision on Friday, January 3, to sit out of the fifth Test against the Baggy Greens, which got underway at Sydney Cricket Ground. Rohit’s decision came as a surprise for many greats and experts of the game, but while speaking to his former India teammate Irfan Pathan on Saturday, Rohit explained his decision to ‘opt out’ of the fifth Test, which is a must-win for the Indian team to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also keep hopes alive of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

“I stood down. I told the selectors and coach that runs are not coming from my bat, so I decided to step away,” Rohit said on Saturday.
