The first batch of Indian players left for Australia on Sunday evening. The Indian cricket team will lock horns with Pat Cummins-led Australia in the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on November 22 in Perth. While the first batch of the players left for the much-awaited tour on Sunday, the rest of the players will board their flight on Monday following head coach Gautam Gambhir’s press conference in Mumbai.
The Indian cricketers were spotted deboarding the team bus at Mumbai airport on Sunday evening. The likes of Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, all-rounder Washington Sundar, strength and conditioning coach Soham Shah and opener Yashasvi Jasiwal were in the first batch of players to leave for the Australian shores.
Rohit Sharma to not travel to Australia
Meanwhile, it has been learned that Rohit Sharma will not travel with the team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.
According to the Times of India, Rohit will not accompany his teammates to Australia. However, there is a possibility that he might join the Indian camp right before the commencement of the first Test on November 22.
“Yes, Rohit is not travelling with the team, but don’t rule him out of the first Test as yet. He may end up flying to Australia later third week, closer to the first Test,” the report quoted a source as saying.
Gambhir to address the press on Monday
Gautam Gambhir will address a press conference on Monday before boarding the flight to Australia. The India head coach, along with captain Rohit and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, recently attended a review meeting with BCCI chief Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah where the trio were reportedly grilled on the series whitewash against New Zealand.
