Smriti Mandhana created history after she smashed her third consecutive fifty against the West Indies in Navi Mumbai.
Smriti Mandhana continued her stellar form with the bat by smashing her third consecutive fifty in the final T20I against West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday to create history.
As a result of her knock, Mandhana now holds the record for the most 50+ scores in Women’s T20 internationals. She went past New Zealand’s Suzie Bates who held the record at 29 fifty-plus scores.
Mandhana’s knock came at a crucial juncture after the Indian team struggled to get going against the new ball. With Uma Chetry’s first-over dismissal, stand-in skipper Mandhana, stood up to the challenge to give them a blistering start in the powerplay by smashing 38 runs in 20 balls.
After the field opened up after the first six overs, she then took some time as she reached her fifty in 27 deliveries.
She also becomes the second Indian after Mithali Raj to have scored three consecutive fifties in a T20 international match.

Mandhana who is in fine form with the, will be expected to bat through the innings and take India to a really high total to ensure that the bowlers have enough cover to defend with the ball.
Her knock comes at a time when India is looking to claim their first Women’s T20I series win in five years. Should India go ahead and get the win, Mandhana’s knock will certainly be remembered as India turned around their fortunes in T20I bilaterals.

In addition, Mandhana has also overtaken Sri Lankan skipper, Chamari Athapaththu’s record for having scored the most runs in a calendar year in the women’s T20I format.
