Smriti Mandhana was adjudged the player of the series with threeback-to-back fifties as India pipped West Indies 2-1 in the three-match series and it was also the home side’s first T20I series win at home since October 2019.
She said the chat ahead o fthe 3rd and last T20I was that they have an opportunity to win a T20I series at home after 5 years and she is glad that they got the win.

“It’s been five years since we haven’t won a T20I series in India. That was the chat earlier in the day. We had the chance to do it after 5 years. Need to keep doing the right things now,” Mandhana said at the presentation after the match.
In the series, Mandhana had scores of 64, 63 and 77 and with the younger faces in the batting unit, she had the added responsibility with the bat, adding that she feels that she bats better in such situations.
“With the kind of batting line-up, we have some new youngsters. So need to take responsibility. More than timing the ball, I try to put my head into playing according to the situation,” she said.
Richa Ghosh smashed a record-equalling fastest fifty, bringing up her fifty off a mere 18 balls, as she struck a 21-ball 54, with the help of three boundaries and five massive sixes.
India’s stand-in captain was full of praise for the youngster, saying everyone stepped up as it is not easy to defend totals at this venue due to the dew.
“Liked the way Richa Ghosh batted. The way the girls stepped up today, they played with a lot of intent. I wouldn’t have been able to that playing my second or third match,” Mandhana said.
Mandhana and Richa powered India to their highest ever T20I total of 217/4 from their 20 overs. In reply, West Indies crumbled against a mountainous target and crawled to 157/9 in their 20 overs, as left-arm spinner Radha Yadav returned with a four-wicket haul.
The two teams will now move to Vadodara for a three-match ODI series to be played at the new Kotambi Stadium from December 22.
