Star Indian opening batter Smriti Mandhana on Monday (January 27) won the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. The 27-year-old left-handed batter was in red-hot form last year. She played 13 ODIs for Women in Blue, and with the help of four centuries and three fifties, scored 747 runs.

In addition to that, Mandhana rolled her arm in three matches and picked up one wicket as well.

The win on Monday helped the 28-year-old Indian star equal New Zealand batter Suzie Bates record of winning the ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year on multiple occasions. Mandhana won her ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award in 2018.

Bates won the ICC ODI Cricketer award in 2013 and 2016.

Mandhana earned a place in the ICC Women’s ODI and T20I Team of the Year 2024 last week, along with all-rounder Deepti Sharma. Wolvaardt, who led South Africa to the T20 World Cup 2024 final in the United Arab Emirates last year, was named as the captain of both the ODI and T20I teams.

Mandhana scored four ODI centuries in 2024 – a new record in the women’s game – and found the boundary more than a hundred times in the year, hitting 95 fours and six maximums.

She is also the leading run scorer in the ICC Women’s Championship – the ODI table that will cement the qualifiers for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

Mandhana is one of just five batters to have reached four figures in the competition, accumulating up an eye-watering 1358 runs in her 24 matches in the Championship, more than 100 runs clear of the next highest scorer (Wolvaardt).
