South Africa will be led by Temba Bavuma, who recovered from an elbow injury to be fully fit for the Tests. South Africa’s 14-member Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka comprises some big names like Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada. While Maharaj will be South Africa’s lone spin-bowling option in the opening Test, the hosts pace attack will feature the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Jansen, Wiaan Mulder and Gerald Coetzee.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will play under the leadership of Dhananjaya de Silva.
A victory in the series against Sri Lanka is much needed for South Africa in a bid to stay alive in the hunt for a spot in next year’s World Test Championship (WTC) final. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are in the third spot on the WTC points table. They currently have a win percentage of 55.56.
