To curb the menace of players exploiting a loophole, the umpires, in the ongoing season of IPL, have decided to check the bat of every batter before they start their innings. According to a report, umpires earlier checked the bats inside the dressing room a day before the match to ensure they were within the prescribed dimensions. However, there was always the possibility of players opting for a different bat on the match day which didn’t meet the criteria.

As per Cricbuzz, during the weekly review meeting of IPL umpires, it was decided that the openers will get their bat checked via gauge test by the fourth umpire before they enter the field of play while others will be checked by the on-field umpires.
