The Indian men’s cricket team will face England in a five-match T20I series. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22, and the next four matches will be played on January 25, 28, and 31 and February 2 in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai, respectively. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian team in the shortest format series. Ahead of the start of the home assignment, Surya was recently spotted in Mumbai.

Surya, who is one of India’s best T20I batters of all time, was last seen in action for his domestic side Mumbai on January 5 against Saurashtra during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Ahmedabad. His last appearance for Team India was against South Africa on November 15 during a T20I match played at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Surya, who was only able to score 38 runs in five matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the Shreyas Iyer-led side, would like to come up with a big show in the home series against England and help the Men in Blue win the series.
The BCCI announced India’s T20I squad for the England series on January 11, and star pacer Mohammed Shami was also included in India’s 15-member team. Shami last played for India in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. The 34-year-old fast bowler was out of action for more than a year due to an ankle injury. He missed the T20 World Cup 2024 and IPL 2024 due to that.
In addition to Shami, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana are also part of India’s T20I squad. The quartet was part of India’s Test squad in the recently concluded series against Australia. While Nitish played in all five matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jurel played only in the first match and Rana in the first couple of matches. Sundar, on the other hand, was preferred over Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the series opener, and then he also played in the fourth and fifth matches.
