The former cricketer, Suresh Raina backs the move to include Yashasvi Jaiswal in India’s Champions Trophy squad. He reckons that the 23-year-old is hungry to deliver as seen in his performances in Test cricket.
Raina hailed the Indian selectors and the captain, Rohit Sharma for bringing up the budding talent through the ranks and reckons that Jaiswal has the attitude and patience to thrive in international cricket for a long time.
“I think that boy is very hungry for runs. I mean, whenever we see his story, I think he has come to that level very eagerly. Hats off to the selectors, especially Rohit Sharma,” Raina commented on Star Sports.
“Without playing ODI, you are taking that boy to the Champions Trophy. You know that he does a lot of hard work, dedication is very good. But he has a different attitude in his eyes, he has a different patience. It seems that this boy has come prepared,” he added.
The former Indian international highlighted how it is important for any young talents to work towards their best selves and the Indian cricket system will push forward all those who are willing to succeed when it comes to the biggest stage.
“This is the beauty of Indian cricket. If you work hard and you have the passion to represent the country, then there will be some power that will tell you to go and represent the country. Rohit has done this with Yashasvi,” he shared.
The youngster impressed in his first tour to Australia where he scored 391 runs at an average of 43.44 from 10 innings. He is also India’s highest run-scorer in the 2023-25 cycle of the World Test Championship and second overall with 1798 runs at an average of 52.88.
