Deepak Chahar has played 76 matches for CSK since making his IPL debut for the franchise in 2018 and has 76 wickets to his name.
Chennai Super Kings splashed out Rs 14 crore to acquire Deepak Chahar’s services in the IPL 2022 mega auction, but he got ruled out of the entire season due to an injury. In the last two seasons of the cash-rich league as well, Chahar struggled with fitness-related issues and could only manage to play 10 and 8 matches, respectively. After an ordinary show in the last couple of years for the Men in Yellow, Chahar was not retained by the five-time IPL champions and will now go under the hammer during the IPL 2025 mega auction, which is scheduled to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
According to Chahar, he wants to play for CSK again and is expecting the Chennai-based franchise to bid for him. He feels that his skills will be valued by the team in the auction, who went all out to re-sign him in the last mega auction.
“I was not retained by them (CSK) in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don’t know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay, and that’s why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game,” Chahar was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“I think they will bid for me again. I would like to don the yellow jersey again, and if not that, then I would want the Rajasthan Royals to bid for me,” he added.
Chahar, who has 77 wickets to his name in 81 IPL matches played so far, made his debut in the cash-rich league in 2016 for the Rising Pune Super Giants. He joined CSK in the IPL 2018 mega auction, and in 76 matches played so far for the franchise, he has picked up 76 wickets. He was part of the MS Dhoni-led side that won the title in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
