Jasprit Bumrah, who enjoyed the form of his life in recent weeks, will end the year as the leading wicket-taker in men’s Tests.
In 2024, Bumrah donned the whites for India in 13 matches and picked a staggering 71 scalps. He claimed as many as five fifers while maintaining an average of 14.92. Meanwhile, in Women’s Tests, South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba finished as the top wicket-taker.
As we set to ring in the new year, let’s take a look at the bowlers who have dominated Test cricket in 2024.
Top Wicket-takers in Men’s Tests
Gus Atkinson, England: Gus Atkinson was second on the list after Bumrah for most Test wickets in 2024. The English pacer featured in 11 games in the longest format and fetched 52 scalps including three five-wicket hauls and two four-fers.
Shoaib Bashir, England: Another England bowler, Shoaib Bashir has also achieved major success in 2024. The 21-year-old spinner bagged 49 wickets from 15 Test matches. His tally included three fifers.
Matt Henry, New Zealand: Veteran pacer Matt Henry represented New Zealand in nine Tests and claimed 48 wickets at a stunning average of 18.58. He took 7 wickets for 67 runs against Australia at Hagley Oval in March.
Ravindra Jadeja, India: With India playing several Test series at home, Ravindra Jadeja bagged 48 wickets. The left-arm spinner picked 10 scalps in a match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Top Wicket-takers in Women’s Tests
Sneh Rana, India: Sneh Rana played just one Test this year and wrapped it up with ten wickets. She is the second-highest wicket-taker in women’s Tests, following Nonkululeko Mlaba. In the match against South Africa in Chennai, Rana took eight wickets in the first innings.
Lauren Bell, England: England’s Lauren Bell faced South Africa in a home Test in Bloemfontein and registered eight wickets across the two innings. She is third on the list for women’s Test wicket-takers.
Darcie Brown, Australia: Darcia Brown fetched the first five-wicket haul in her career in a Test match against South Africa in February. She added two more to his tally in the second innings.
Annabel Sutherland, Australia: In her only Test appearance against South Africa, Annabel Sutherland took seven wickets while conceding 30 runs in 17 overs. She rounds up this list.
