Travis Head, who has been dealing with a quad issue, didn’t participate in Australia’s training session on Monday.
Travis Head has proved to be India’s nemesis in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The left-hander smashed back-to-back hundreds in the Test series and currently leading the charts with 409 runs. However, doubt looms over his participation in the Boxing Day Tests which begins Thursday in Melbourne.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Head, who has been dealing with a quad issue, didn’t participate in Australia’s training session on Monday. The Australian daily quoted a team spokesperson saying it was an optional session as the hosts will train at full strength on Tuesday where Head will need to prove his fitness.
The South Australian batter smashed a match-winning 140 in Adelaide, setting up Australia’s 10-wicket triumph. He once again put Australia in a commanding position at the Gabba with his 152-run knock.
It was at The Gabba when he was seen limping between the wickets during Australia’s second innings. He then did not take the field on the final day of the third Test but at the post-match presentation, he said he was just ‘sore’ but would be raring to go at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Maiden call-up to Konstas
Meanwhile, 19-year-old batter Sam Konstas has received a maiden call-up as the George Bailey-led selection panel decided to drop Nathan McSweeney from the last two fixtures of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“I do, but I am not going to say what it is … just trying to put pressure back on the bowlers,” Konstas told reporters on Monday when asked about his plans to counter the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
The likes of Jhye Richardson, Beau Webster and Sean Abbott have also been added to the Australian squad for the remaining two Tests against India.
