Travis Head maintained his red-hot form against India in international cricket and scored a brilliant century for the Baggy Greens on Saturday (December 7). The left-handed batter came out to bat at No. 5 for the Aussies in the ongoing second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide Oval and crossed the 100-run mark with a single on the last ball of the 72nd over, which was bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin. Head needed 111 balls to complete his second Test century against India and has so far hammered 10 fours and three sixes.
After completing his eighth century in 51 Tests played so far, Head came up with a heartwarming celebration, the video of which is now going viral on the internet. Head became a father for the second time last month, and he performed a cradling gesture to honour his newborn son.
Here’s a look:
Head arrived at the crease when the Aussies were struggling at 103 for 3 in 40.1 overs, and he not only revived Australia’s innings but also put pressure back on Indian bowlers. Head added 65 runs for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschagne (64) and 74 runs with Alex Carey for the sixth wicket.
By completing his century in 111 balls, Head broke his own record for scoring the fastest century in day-night Tests. Head crossed the 100-run mark in 112 balls against England during the 2022 pink-ball Test played in Hobart.
The century on Saturday was also Head’s third hundred in pink-ball Tests. Only Labuschagne has scored more centuries in day-night Tests than the South Australian batter. Labuschagne has six centuries to his name in pink-ball Tests, and a total of two batters—Asad Shafique and Dimuth Karunaratne—have two centuries each to their name in D/N Tests.
Head scored 89 runs for Australia in the second innings of the first Test as well, which was played from November 22 to 25 at Optus Stadium in Perth. He was caught behind by Rishabh Pant off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling in the match which India went on to win by 295 runs inside four days.
