Star Kiwi and Mumbai Indians pacer Trent Boult has said that the entire franchise is made up of a few world-class players who can win matches on their own, and among them, Rohit Sharma doesn’t need a separate introduction, after the former captain played yet another blistering knock on Wednesday against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Boult was crucial in dismantling Hyderabad’s famed top order, returning with a match-winning spell of 4/26 to cap Mumbai’s fourth straight victory in emphatic style.
After Hyderabad collapsed to 143/8, Mumbai, powered by Rohit‘s commanding 46-ball 70, chased down the target in the 16th over.
“I think the whole side, the whole Mumbai Indians squad possesses some world-class players and Rohit needs no introduction in that regard,” Boult said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
“I’m sure everyone wants to be contributing at some points, but Rohit’s doing a fantastic job of late and playing nicely just at the right time. So he’s going to play a huge role for us in the remaining part of the season,” Boult added.
The star Kiwi pacer lauded skipper Hardik Pandya as well for his captaincy style, calling it a refreshing experience.
“Hardik’s a passionate cricketer, obviously very skilful. He’s a great leader, I think. He leads from the front,” Boult said.
“He’s a great communicator. He’s one of my favourite Indian cricketers, so to get the chance to play underneath him is a great experience,” Boult added.
The former Kiwi pacer, who has adjusted to a new role after shifting from the Rajasthan Royals to Mumbai, emphasised the importance of adaptability in a long tournament like the Indian Premier League.
“In Rajasthan, I was prepared to bowl at any stage of the match. I’ve been lucky enough to play 10 IPL seasons, where it hasn’t always been the same recipe every time. So I think the first thing is you’ve got to always want the ball,” Boult said.
“There are some great players in there. (Jasprit) Bumrah needs no introduction either, so it’s great to be having the ball back in hand with him,” Boult added.
