Niki Prasad-led Indian team defeated South Africa by 9 wickets on Sunday, February 2, to win the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 title. The Indian team chased down the target of 83 runs in 11.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. Opening batter G. Trisha scored 44 runs for the Indian team in the summit clash and also broke the record for scoring the most runs in one edition of the women’s U19 T20 World Cup. Before her super show with the bat, Trisha also picked up three wickets for 15 runs in four overs to help India dismiss South Africa for 82 runs in 20 overs.

The win over South Africa in the match played at Bayuemas Oval at Kuala Lumpur helped the Niki Prasad-led U19 women’s team become the first Indian team in history to successfully defend the world title. India has won five U19 World Cup titles in the men’s category but has never managed to successfully defend the crown. The senior Indian women’s team has never won an ICC trophy, whereas the senior men’s team had to wait for 28 years for the second ODI World Cup title after winning the first and 17 years for the second T20 World Cup title.

In the summit clash played at Bayuemas Oval, South Africa opted to bat first but their batters choked. Apart from Trisha’s 3/15, Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia picked up two wickets each and other South African batter was sent back to the pavilion by Shabnam Shakil.

Mieke van Voorst top-scored for the Kayla Reyneke-led side. She faced 18 balls and scored 23 runs. No. 7 batter Fay Cowling amassed a total of 15 runs, and wicketkeeper-batter Karabo Meso contributed 10 runs from 26 balls.
