Rohit Sharma had a simple message for those who tried to provoke the Indian team after the exchange between Bumrah and Konstas.

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma benched himself for the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, but he did not mince his words as he shared his take on the fiery verbal exchange between Jasprit Bumrah and Sam Konstas that took place in the final minutes of the first day’s play.
Rohit in an interview with Star Sports, cleared the air on why he decided to bench himself. Along with that, he also weighed in his opinion on the aggression shown between the two teams. The captain defended the team and warned the Aussies that if they continued, it would only be a matter of time till they reacted.
“Jab tak shaanth hai tab tak shaanth hai. But agar tum ungli karte rahoge toh thodi shaanth baithega (They are all calm until they aren’t. But if you keep poking them then they obviously won’t be quiet),” he shared.
The captain also called for both teams to focus on playing the game and also backed his team to have their focus on what’s important which is to win the ongoing Test so that they can retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Cricket khelo, yeh faaltu ki cheeze, bol bachchan karna, yeh sab nai deta hai. Humare ladke classy hai. Hum zyaada focus karte hai ki hamara kaam kya hai uss cheez pe dhyaan dena (Play cricket, all these unnecessary things like smack talk and all are not needed. Our boys are a classy bunch and focus on what we need to do and pay attention to that),” Rohit commented.
Despite Bumrah showing a new side to his aggression, he was able to get the job done by the end of Day 1 with the wicket of Usman Khawaja in the final delivery. His celebration was also indicative of his emotions as he looked to approach the Australian youngster, but backed away promptly.
Bumrah, who is now leading the side in Rohit’s absence, has suffered a massive injury scare with the pace spearhead being taken out of the field and to the hospital for an injury concern on his back. He returned while India was batting as the second day’s play came to an end.
The visitors will hope that Bumrah is ready to go for the final innings where he will play a big role in India’s chances of getting a possible series-levelling win.
