Thirteen-year-old Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on Monday by becoming the youngest player ever to be picked in an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
The Rajasthan Royals secured Suryavanshi’s rights for Rs 1.10 crore after an intense bidding war with the Delhi Capitals.
Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid expressed confidence that the franchise would offer Suryavanshi “a good environment” as he begins his journey in the IPL.

Sanjeev Suryavanshi, a talented cricketer in his own right, dedicated himself to achieving national success in the sport. Despite his best efforts, he fell short of his goal. Undeterred, he poured his unwavering determination and resources into nurturing his son, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s cricketing aspirations. Driven to see his son succeed where he had not, Suryavanshi became his son’s coach, meticulously guiding him in every facet of the game.
Sanjeev Suryavanshi shared that his son began playing cricket with a tennis ball at the age of five. Following this, he proved his talent in the Ranji Trophy. Subsequently, he secured a place in the Indian Under 19 team.
“We faced many difficulties, which also included a financial crisis. When Vaibhav was five years old, I used to make him practice cricket at our doorstep. At the age of 7, Vaibhav was enrolled in Samastipur Sports Academy. Here, coach Brijesh Jha trained him with hard work,” Sanjeev Suryavanshi said speaking to Local 18,

Sanjeev Suryavanshi shared that the President of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) Rakesh Tiwari recognised his son’s talent early on, providing him with the opportunity to play at the state level at a young age.
He added that Vaibhav lived up to this trust, delivering brilliant performances and scoring consistently. Following this success, Vaibhav also made his mark on larger platforms such as Challenger Khel and India Khel.
Sanjeev Suryavanshi said that his son is currently in Dubai with the Under-19 team to participate in the Asia Cup. He said that his participation in IPL 2025 will be another significant milestone in his son’s cricketing journey, one that holds the potential to propel his career to new heights.
