Vaishnavi entered her name in history books on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat trick in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Vaishnavi Sharma entered her name in history books on Tuesday, January 21, by becoming the first Indian and third bowler overall in the world to take a hat trick in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Sharma achieved the feat during India’s second Group A match against Malaysia, which was played at Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
In her maiden U19 World Cup match, the 19-year-old cricketer finished with figures of 5 for 5 in four overs and helped India dismiss Malaysia for 31 runs in 14.3 overs.
Her figures of 5/5 are the best in bowling performance in the history of the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup.
Vaishnavi was introduced to the attack in the eighth over of the match, and on the fourth ball, she accounted for the dismissal of Nur Dania Syuhada. Nur was caught by captain Niki Prasad after making 1 run from 12 balls.
Sharma picked her second wicket on the first ball of the second over by breaching Nuriman Hidayah’s defence. Nuriman faced 14 balls during her stay at the crease and scored two runs.
Vaishnavi failed to take any wickets in her third over, but she didn’t concede any runs as well.
On the second ball of her fourth over, she trapped Nur Ain Binti Roslan in front of the wickets. Binti Roslan made 3 runs from 18 balls. Nur Isma Dania was the next batter to return back to the pavilion. She was also dismissed LBW by Vaishnavi. The Indian spinner completed her hat trick and five-wicket haul on the fourth ball of the 14th over of the Malaysian innings by dismissing Siti Nazwah. Siti was clean bowled by Vaishnavi for zero runs from one ball.
South Africa allrounder Madison Landsman was the first player to take a hat trick in the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup history. She achieved the feat during South Africa’s Group D match against Scotland in the 2023 edition, which was played in Benoni.
Henriette Ishimwe joined her in the elite list on January 17, 2023, by taking four wickets in four balls for Rwanda during their Group B match against Zimbabwe in Potchefstroom.
