Varun Chakaravarthy is having a gala time in the ongoing T20I series between India and England. The legspinner has so far picked up 10 wickets against England and twice been declared player-of-the-match with his team leading the five-match series 2-1.

England batters have struggled against him as he continues to bamboozle them. On Tuesday, he became the first bowler to claim 10 or more wickets in a bilateral T20I series between India and England.

The 33-year-old finished with brilliant bowling figures of 5/24 – his second five-wicket haul in T20Is – to continue his fine form with the ball. Although, he would’ve been slightly disappointed that the performance came in a defeat with Indian batters failing to complement his effort.

Chakaravarthy though has no qualms over how Indian batters performed.

“I can’t complain because that’s the nature of the game. Even when I don’t take five wickets, we might end up losing. So I can’t complain. But my job is to just keep focusing on what I can do, what I can perform for the team, and that’s all. That’s all is in my control,” he told reporters after the match.

Powered by a brisk half-century from opener Ben Duckett and a quickfire 24-ball 43 from Liam Livingstone, England posted a competitive 171/9 after being put in to bat first at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

However, it was a collective off day for Indian batters as they mustered 145/9 in 20 overs with England winning by 26 runs.

Chakaravarthy said the absence of dew worked in the favour of England bowlers.

“I thought the dew might set in and the ball will start skidding on. But the pitch became very slow and their cutters and their leggies started working more. While if you see in the first innings it was not that slow. So, that definitely played in their favour,” he said.
