Punjab are the first team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to have scored two 400+ scores in an edition after their explosive display against Hyderabad.

Punjab created history in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after smashing a mammoth first-innings score of 426/4 against Hyderabad in the clash that took place on Friday in Ahmedabad.
The side led by Abhishek Sharma is the first to have achieved the rare feat of having scored two 400+ scores in the tournament. The first instance was against Saurashtra, earlier on Tuesday, where the side smashed 424 runs.
The game against Saurashtra saw Punjab get to the score thanks to the skipper’s sensational knock of 170 off 96 deliveries and his fellow opening partner, Prabhsimran Singh’s 125 off 95 balls to give them the platform. Anmol Malhotra and Sanvir Singh also chipped in with 48 and 40 respectively to add to their tally as well.
Against Hyderabad, the opening pair struck big with Prabhsimran scoring 137 while Abhishek missed out on his century by 2 runs. Anmolpreet Singh contributed with 46 while Ramandeep Singh gave the perfect finish with 80 runs off 53 deliveries to give them a score of 426/4.
Punjab’s explosive batting unit continues to impress with their blistering brand of power hitting which even the toughest of opponents are finding it difficult to control. The knock against Hyderabad is now the fourth-highest score in the tournament.
Interestingly the highest score in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match goes to Tamil Nadu when they smashed 506/2 with Narayan Jagadeesan hitting 277 off 141 deliveries against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 season.
Abhishek Sharma is known for his explosive batting style in the white-ball format and had one of his best seasons in the 2024 IPL season where the Sunrisers Hyderabad made it all the way to the final. He has also made his international T20I debut but is yet to establish his spot within the national setup.
Punjab will hope to get the win against Hyderabad and also their remaining games in the group to ensure that they progress through to the knockout stages, in a bid to win their fifth Vijay Hazare Trophy title.
